Tutorial quote: This guide explains how to install Maia Mailguard, a spam and virus management system, on a Debian Lenny mailserver. Maia Mailguard is a web-based interface and management system based on the popular amavisd-new email scanner and SpamAssassin. Written in Perl and PHP, Maia Mailguard gives end-users control over how their mail is processed by virus scanners and spam filters, while giving mail administrators the power to configure site-wide defaults and limits. |

Tutorial quote: When I started booting a box with multiple SCSI adapters, I wanted to keep the device ordering sane. I find it’s best when the boot ordering matches the order in which Linux initializes the drivers for each controller. One effective way to handle this under Debian GNU/Linux with one of the stock kernels is to create a custom initrd image. |

Tutorial quote: This document describes how to install a Postfix mail server that is based on virtual users and domains, i.e. users and domains that are in a MySQL database. I'll also demonstrate the installation and configuration of Courier (Courier-POP3, Courier-IMAP), so that Courier can authenticate against the same MySQL database Postfix uses. The resulting Postfix server is capable of SMTP-AUTH and TLS and quota. Passwords are stored in encrypted form in the database. In addition to that, this tutorial covers the installation of Amavisd, SpamAssassin and ClamAV so that emails will be scanned for spam and viruses. I will also show how to install SquirrelMail as a webmail interface so that users can read and send emails and change their passwords. |

Tutorial quote: I have been running with a MySQL backend for virtual hosting for some time, but when I discovered Phamm and the added FTP feature I decided to switch to LDAP as backend for Postfix with virtual hosting. In view of the fact that the installation and configuration guide of Phamm is lacking some basic information it took me quite some time to put it all together and get it working. Piecing it all together was not simple so I would like to share how I configured it and got it all working toghether. |

Tutorial quote: I've written this how-to after trying to find a boot medium for my home gateway machine which could be used for system rescues and even installing Gentoo. Why not use the standard Gentoo Live CD you ask? Well my gateway machine is one of those small, silent and cool running mini-itx machines (http://www.mini-itx.com) and has no CDROM or floppy drive. I needed some way of getting Gentoo on there and some way of easily rescuing it when the need arises. The good news is that these VIA mini-tix machines are USB bootable and I much preferred the idea of having a little USB drive/stick that I could push into any USB bootable machine and boot into Linux rather than having to set up a PXE networked boot environment (which is also supported). |

Tutorial quote: mod_proxy_balancer is an Apache module that lets you create a loadbalancer. This loadbalancer retrieves requested pages from two or more backend webservers and delivers them to the user's computer. An important feature of mod_proxy_balancer is that it keeps track of sessions so that a single user always deals with the same backend webserver. |
