Splitting Apache Logs With vlogger

Post date: June 17, 2007, 22:06 Category: Software Views: 3998 Comments
Tutorial quote: Vlogger is a little tool with which you can write Apache logs broken down by virtual hosts and days. With vlogger, we need to put just one CustomLog directive into our global Apache configuration, and it will write access logs for each virtual host and day. Therefore, you do not have to split Apache's overall access log into access logs for each virtual host each day, and you do not have to configure Apache to write one access log per virtual host (which could make you run out of file descriptors very fast).

Tutorial quote: Vlogger is a little tool with which you can write lighttpd logs broken down by virtual hosts and days. With vlogger, we need to put just one accesslog.filename directive into our global lighttpd configuration, and it will write access logs for each virtual host and day. Therefore, you do not have to split lighttpd's overall access log into access logs for each virtual host each day, and you do not have to configure lighttpd to write one access log per virtual host (which could make you run out of file descriptors very fast). At the end of this tutorial I will show you how to use webalizer to create statistics from the lighttpd access logs.

Creating DjVu Documents Linux HOWTO

Post date: July 16, 2006, 16:07 Category: Miscellaneous Views: 4521 Comments
Tutorial quote: This document explains some of the uses of djvulibre implementation of DjVu for creating quality DjVu documents in linux. DjVu format features bitmap document compression and hypertext structure. It is used by numerous web sites all around the world for storing and distributing digital documents including scanned documents and high-resolution pictures. One of the advantages of DjVu files is that they are notably small, often smaller than PDF or JPEG files with the same content. This makes DjVu a helpful tool for digitizing books and journals, especially scientific ones.

Below it is considered the case when a DjVu document is created from a number of separate JPEG files each containing a single page. Here JPEG format is not a limitation, and the examples can cover arbitrary image formats. Conversion from PDF to DjVu is also discussed. Usage of scanner software is not explained: refer to the relevant documentation.

Install Firefox 3.6 Beta1Pre In Ubuntu

Post date: October 8, 2009, 11:10 Category: Software Views: 3872 Comments
Tutorial quote: I was telling you about my issues with scrolling in Firefox (see #6). Well, I didn't manage to fix that for Firefox 3.5 but instead, I installed Firefox 3.6 beta 1 pre (Namoroka) and the scrolling now works perfectly (thanks to Tinhed for the tip!). Also, basically everything feels a lot faster, at least in Ubuntu. This is why I suggest you upgrade to Firefox 3.6.
